Surface preparation is important. All surfaces must be smooth, clean, dry, free of mildew, grease, soap film, sanding dust or other contaminants. Remove all loose or peeling material from previously-painted surfaces. Wash all surfaces with a solution of 3 tablespoons of (Phosphate-free) TSP in a gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly, allow to dry and then scuff sand using 80-120 grit sandpaper on a hand sander. Remove all sanding dust. Do not apply at temperatures below 10˚C (50˚F).
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old lead paint from any surface you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a wet mop or HEPAvacuum. For additional information, Canadian customers contact the Product Safety division of Health Canada at 1-800-O-CANADA, US customers contact the U.S. EPA/Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323).
Special Note: This product contains a sufficient level of an Environment Canada approved mildewcide to prevent mold, mildew and algae from growing on the surface of the coating. As mildew growth is, to a large degree dependent on a surface preparation and local conditions, Cloverdale Paint cannot guarantee that mildew will not grow through or on any contaminants which may have deposited on the surface of the coating.
New or Bare Wood (Exterior): Sand or chemically remove mill glaze to expose fresh wood cells prior to applying paint or stain. Woods known to contain soluble stains, such as tannins in cedar and redwood must be primed with Cloverdale Paint 15130 or 05130 Stain-Blocking primers. Near grade level deck boards subject to high moisture levels must be protected by sealing from moisture exposure on all six sides of the deck board, including the ends.
Pre-Painted Surfaces: Self-Priming on properly-prepared pre-painted surfaces. Wash with a solution of 3 tablespoons of (Phosphate-free) TSP in a gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly, allow to dry, and then scuff sand using 80 to 120 grit sandpaper on a hand sander. Remove all sanding dust.
New or Bare Wood: Use Cloverdale Exterior Alkyd (15130) or Acrylic (05130).
Masonry: Self-priming or Cloverdale Latex Block Filler (05700).
Drywall: Cloverdale Hi-Hide Latex Drywall Sealer (05250).
Ferrous Metals (Steel, Iron): Use a suitable anti-corrosive primer such as Cloverdale 703-Series water-based or 710-Series Solvent-based Rustex primer.
