  • Surface preparation:

Surface preparation is important. All surfaces must be smooth, clean, dry, free of mildew, grease, soap film, sanding dust or other contaminants. Remove all loose or peeling material from previously-painted surfaces. Wash all surfaces with a solution of 3 tablespoons of (Phosphate-free) TSP in a gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly, allow to dry and then scuff sand using 80-120 grit sandpaper on a hand sander. Remove all sanding dust. Do not apply at temperatures below 10˚C (50˚F).

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old lead paint from any surface you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a wet mop or HEPAvacuum. For additional information, Canadian customers contact the Product Safety division of Health Canada at 1-800-O-CANADA, US customers contact the U.S. EPA/Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323).

Special Note: This product contains a sufficient level of an Environment Canada approved mildewcide to prevent mold, mildew and algae from growing on the surface of the coating. As mildew growth is, to a large degree dependent on a surface preparation and local conditions, Cloverdale Paint cannot guarantee that mildew will not grow through or on any contaminants which may have deposited on the surface of the coating.

  • Recommended Primers:

Pre-Painted Surfaces: Self-Priming on properly-prepared pre-painted surfaces. Wash with a solution of 3 tablespoons of (Phosphate-free) TSP in a gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly, allow to dry, and then scuff sand using 80 to 120 grit sandpaper on a hand sander. De-gloss by sanding and must be soundly adhereing prior to repainting. Remove all sanding dust.

New or Bare Wood: Self-priming. Use an Exterior Alkyd (15130) or Acrylic (05130) primer on pressure treated, cedar or redwood.  Pressure treated lumber must be allowed to 'season' for 28 days prior to painting.  For woods prone to Tannin Bleeding and when lighter colored stains are selected, a stain blocking primer must be used.

    Masonry: Self-priming.

    Drywall: Not recommended

    Steel: Not recommended
