  • Product Description Marketing:

Towerthon Elastomeric Coating is a high solids, internally plasticised, elastomeric coating formulated for use on masonry, concrete, prepared vinyl and aluminum siding, properly primed metal and primed wood. Towerthon's excellent elongation properties, even at low temperatures, make it the coating of choice for hairline or "spider web" cracked surfaces. It moves with the building, expanding and contracting to maintain a water-repellent barrier. The high elongation and recovery properties allow this product to bridge cracks up to 1/16 inch. Towerthon has excellent weathering and color retention properties and contains a fungicide for added mildew resistance on the dried film. Approved by the Master Painter's Institute under category # 40 and #113.

    • Masonry and concrete
  • Surface preparation:

    Surface Preparation

Surface preparation is important. All surfaces must be smooth, clean, dry, and free of mildew, grease, soap film, sanding dust, or other contaminants. Remove all loose or peeling material from previously painted surfaces. Wash all surfaces with a solution of 3 tablespoons of phosphate-free TSP in a gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly, allow to dry, and then scuff sand using 80–120 grit sandpaper on a hand sander. Remove all sanding dust. Do not apply at temperatures below 5˚C (41˚F).

WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old lead paint from any surface, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. Exposure to lead dust can cause serious illness, such as brain damage, especially in children. Pregnant women should also avoid exposure. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a wet mop or HEPA vacuum. For additional information, Canadian customers may contact the Product Safety Division of Health Canada at 1-800-O-CANADA, and U.S. customers may contact the U.S. EPA/Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323).

Special Note: This product contains a sufficient level of an Environment Canada-approved mildewcide to prevent mold, mildew, and algae from growing on the surface of the coating. However, because mildew growth is largely dependent on surface preparation and local conditions, Cloverdale Paint cannot guarantee that mildew will not grow through or on contaminants deposited on the surface of the coating.

  • Recommended Primers:

    Priming Recommendations

Pre-Painted Surfaces: Self-priming on properly prepared pre-painted surfaces. Wash with a solution of 3 tablespoons of phosphate-free TSP in a gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly, allow to dry, and then scuff sand using 80–120 grit sandpaper on a hand sander. Remove all sanding dust.

New or Bare Wood: Use Cloverdale Exterior Alkyd (15130) or Acrylic (05130).

Masonry: Self-priming or use Cloverdale Latex Block Filler (05700).

Ferrous Metals (Steel, Iron): Use a suitable anti-corrosive primer such as Cloverdale 703-Series water-based or 710-Series solvent-based Rustex primer.
